https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GDrKVUxQd24In this video Professor Lee Berger introduces a new fossil hominid site to the world as part of an experiment in open science communication. The site, known by its University of the Witwatersrand accession number U.W. 105, was discovered by Wits University’s National Geographic Hill Exploration Programme and is situated just a few hundred meters from the famous Rising Star Cave system where Homo naledi was discovered. This video is the first in a series that will follow the scientific work at the new site, the preparation of fossils and follow scientists as they that attempt to understand the taxonomy, chronology, palaeoecology and context of this new ancient human relative, and hopefully discover other important specimens along the way.
