I?ve just finished my first bronze akinakes. It?s based on an akinakes from the 6th century B.C., which was excavated from a kurhan near the village of Kam'ianka, Cherkas'ka Oblast. Photo of the original:

I did not have any measurements, but I used the same hilt size for scale as from other akinakes, which gave me a total length of 36cm. The akinakes was cast with some modern aids to make it more easy, and also finished with modern tools. The edge is hammered to harden it.

It's made for re-enactment, or people who just want one that's as close in function and appearance to the original as possible. As I don't know the alloy of the original, I'm using a conventional bronze age bronze (10-13% tin). On the finished one, the edges are also hardened by hammering.
